Marc Anthony Powe

Marc Anthony Powe was born on August 18th 1967 in Mobile, Alabama.  At a young age he loved hot wheels, toy racetracks and dune buggies.  This influence came from his dad who always had a muscle car.  At age 4 his dad purchased a 450cc Honda street motorcycle and from that day forward he loved motorcycles as well.  His father owned many more motorcycles and Marc recalls riding on the back with his dad on some occasions.  He would tell his dad, “Go fast daddy, go fast.”  His dad also began attending drag racing events in Bowling Green, Kentucky and would come home and tell Marc about drag motorcycle racers such as Granddaddy Joe Smith and Russ Collins.    Marc’s dad always had hotrod and motorcycle magazines around the house and he would look at them for hours at a time.

At age 7, Marc’s family moved to Laurel, Maryland just outside of the nation’s capital.  They lived there for 2 years.  During this time Marc’s dad became more involved in high performance motorcycles.  His family moved back to Mobile, Alabama and that summer his dad took him to Dauphin Island Dragway for the first time.  From that day forward, he was hooked on drag racing.  In 1978, Marc attended his first International Dragbike Association event where his dad qualified in Pro Comp.

As a young teen, Marc had a go-kart and a motorcycle. It was a KE 100 Kawasaki Enduro.  He also had an interest in weight training and music.  Marc played the alto saxophone in the school band from the 6th grade until the 11th grade.  Before his 16th birthday Marc made his first pass on his dad’s 1200cc turbocharged Kawasaki.  In addition to loving motorcycles and drag racing, he would be forever in love with turbochargers.  Throughout high school and college, Marc remained active in motorcycle drag racing.  Briefly during his college years he bracket raced a turbocharged Kawasaki drag motorcycle and won three motorcycle bracket races in his area.  He then put racing aside for several years to complete his education and to start a career.

After completing his education, Marc began a career in technical recruiting and business development.  In 1996 he married his college sweetheart and In April of 1997 he accepted a job transfer opportunity to Atlanta, Georgia.  During this time he upgraded his motorcycle to compete in Top Gas and he raced at select national and regional motorcycle drag racing events in addition to frequently traveling to his home town of Mobile Alabama to race with friends.

Today, Marc has now been together with his college sweetheart for over 21 years and they have been married for 14 of those years.  They have a daughter named Kyli and they remain active in the sport of drag racing by supporting events in their area.  Marc has recruited professional technical personnel, taught elementary physical education and has worked as a contract business developer.  His current  focus is growing the “Nu” drag racing experience, NuSouth Drag Racing League !
